Mount Pleasant Town Board Members facing charges in Federal Court!!

Two Mount Pleasant officials have been sued in U.S. District Court for the Southern District of New York, in two separate, but, equally serious, actions.

First term Town Board Member Denis McCarthy is being sued for violations of a residents' Federal Civil Rights, Voting Rights and Constitutional Rights, in relation to his conduct during the 2013 Primary elections.  (Official verification - Case Number - 14-CV-1001-KMK)  Additionally, formal criminal charges (4) have been filed against Mr. McCarthy, with the New York State Attorney General's Office for violations of the New York State Penal Law, related to his actions in this matter.  Two of the charges are Felonies and two are Class A Misdemeanors.

Current Town Supervisor Joan Maybury is also the subject of a Federal lawsuit, which cites Federal Civil Rights and Constitutional Rights violations.  (Official verification - Case Number - 14-CV-1896-CS)  This matter involves the Supervisor's intentional efforts to tamper with a witness who was to testify for the defense in a case that was being heard before the Mt. Pleasant Town Justice Court.  The Supervisor tried to prevent the witness from testifying in that case, knowing that the witnesses' testimony would seriously damage the Town's case against an individual, who was the victim of selective enforcement of the Town Code and improperly issued charges.  This discriminatory treatment was orchestrated by the Supervisor in collusion with former Deputy Town Attorney Christopher McClure (who is a co-defendant in the Federal case).

Truthful One understands that Supervisor Maybury may very soon be facing a number of additional Federal lawsuits.  Over the years of her "reign" as Supervisor, Ms. Maybury seemed to enjoy misusing the power of her office to bring others to court; especially anyone who disagreed with her.  It would appear now that those whom she has abused for so long are turning the tables, and now its her turn to play defendant.  Wonder how she'll enjoy being the accused, instead of the accuser?  Justice?

Dictatorship has been alive and well in the Town of Mount Pleasant during the entire era of the Meehan/Maybury regime.  The good news is that like all dictatorships, this one will shortly come to an abrupt end.  The people have had enough.  Those who have been part of this corrupt administration will soon be forced to leave in disgrace; and it's about time!  Sooner of later, everyone has to pay for their transgressions; even Dictators!

Stay tuned!

  1. Should Joanie resign? Let's think about this...

If she resigns, the town gets to appoint someone from within their own circle to her position. The town residents will have no say in the matter; and, once again, the same people remain in office.

If she finishes out her term, others will be welcome to run for the position, and the residents can elect a new supervisor of their own choosing.

It seems most of the positions in this town get appointed or the existing officers run unopposed -- not for lack of candidates, no. They just seem to mysteriously get thrown off the ballots.
