Did You Know?

Mt. Pleasant Central School District (MPCSD) Board of Education never posted the job availability of the School Superintendent position back in 2009.

In 2011 with two years left on Dr. Guiney's contract the Board of Education gave her an extension and a 23% raise that would raise her salary and benefits to $329,555 in 2015.  In addition to this exorbitant package, Mount Pleasant taxpayers are also providing the Superintendent with an automobile allowance!  We urge you to read the following news account and ask yourself one question - did the Board of Education negotiate this deal in your best interest?  http://mountpleasant.dailyvoice.com/news/mixed-feelings-school-superintendents-contract  What was the Board of Education and its then President Theresa Fowler thinking when it gave away the store?  We urge you to contact them and ask why they wasted YOUR MONEY.

The MPCSD Board of Education hired J.A. Roy and Associates to assist in the selection process for a new Superintendent of Schools to replace the retiring Dr. Alfred Lodovico.

The District was unable to produce any documents to explain how J.A. Roy & Associates was selected as the educational consultant firm to perform the search task, according to responses to FOIL (Freedom of Information) requests. (Highly suspicious)

No District documents were produced from FOIL to support whether an RFP (Request for Proposals) had been issued to solicit competitive bids for an educational consultant firm to help with the search for a new Superintendent. (Highly suspicious)

No District records were produced indicating how much Jacqueline Roy was paid to perform this task. (Highly suspicious)

Ms. Roy was personally contacted, in writing, and stated that she has neither any recollection of the selection process of Dr. Guiney nor any physical records to support her selection.  This is extremely difficult to believe since it was an in-house selection without any other candidates being considered/interviewed for Superintendent and yet she wrote a most glowing recommendation of Dr. Guiney at the time. (Highly suspicious)

Did you know that Dr. Guiney never held a true position of management, e.g., Assistant Principal or Principal before becoming Superintendent?  We find this disturbing.  Her brief stint as an acting Superintendent is no substitute for genuine and documented experience.  The Board of Education managed to lure Dr. Robert Hendrickson out of retirement with a Section 212 waiver to take the Westlake Middle School Principal position even though he possesses exceptional credentials and qualifications that would have made him a much better candidate for School Superintendent than Dr. Guiney.

Dr. Guiney's resume/curriculum vitae is embarrassing and is more suited for position of librarian than a Superintendent of Schools.  The Superintendent's position should be reserved for someone who possesses true management skills that have been tested and thoroughly reviewed and not by someone who served a brief stint as acting Superintendent.

These facts beg the question of whether or not members of the Board of Education truly acted in the best interests of our children or merely took the path of least resistance.  The Board of Education's rationale in their June 17, 2009 press release supports our view.  With an annual budget of over $54 million dollars and almost 2,000 students, the Board of Education was anything but diligent when searching for a truly qualified Superintendent of Schools, not to mention their executive session action that extended Dr. Guinely contract and was a betrayal of public trust.  We are spending approximately $33,000 per student now!  In contrast, tuition at Stepinac, Mt. St. Ursula and Ursuline are $10,000, $8,375 and $17,680 respectively ... better schools at less of a cost!  The School publication "From the Heart" is biased and presents only one side of the issues ... it's YOUR MONEY - so do your own research and you will be amazed at what "From the Heart" doesn't tell you.

NOTE:  This is the same Board that now wants to spend more of your MONEY with its irrational three part Bond proposal ($42.4 Million) - will you let them do it?

  1. Anytime a FOIL request is returned with nothing or is denied using any one of the 9 exemptions to the Freedom of Information Act, you can certainly conclude they are hiding something. The bottom line here is....you asked for it, they didn't cough it up.....that means, they are guilty of being corrupt!
